I need beer: Binny's Beverage Depot (Clark in between Barry and Wellington)
If you live in Lakeview and have not yet been to Binny's, you're crazy. This is potentially the greatest liqor store of all time. First of all, its a castle:

Secondly, they give out samples. Yes, Costco style samples of different types of liquors by various different companies. On a good day, you can easily get a good buzz going while you're still shopping. As if this wasn't enough to entice you to go, their staff is extremely knowledgeable about their products and more than willing to take the time to help you find what you are looking for (even if you have no idea your self what you're looking for). One time I walked in and asked someone what a good beer pairing would be with red snapper to which he came up with 3 different recommendations on the spot. After a quick chat about each one, I went with his recommendation and it ended up being perfect. Their recommendations are not limited to beer alone but also to their spirits and extensive wine collection.
I just want a quick dinner: Chicken Hut (Corner of Belmont and Broadway)
This place is about as simple as it gets. They make chicken and they make sides, and that's it. And the funny thing is the sides aren't even that good, but the chicken is fantastic and never takes more than a few minutes to get your food. I usually just walk in, get myself the half chicken with an extra pita, no sides and I'm out the door with my dinner in as much time as it takes me to pay. If you're debating where to grab dinner on a week night this place is perfect.
I want something classy but still BYOB: HB (Halsted in between Roscoe and Newport)

I've probably been to this place more than any other restaurant in Chicago. Partly because its so close, partly because its BYOB, and partly because the food is amazing. HB has unique style and has so many delicious dishes that you're disappointed that you only get one dinner. One thing you have to try is the edam and artichoke fritters, they're really really good. As if the amazing food wasn't enough, the BYOB aspect just tips it over the edge. Don't fret if you left your bottle at home, Kafka wines is a block south on the corner of Buckingham and Halsted for you pick up something last minute. All around a really solid choice for a nice dinner out.
I'm really craving fried chicken: Crisp (Broadway in between Wellington and Oakdale)

This places makes great fried chicken but not exactly what you're expecting. Using various Korean sauces, they make fried chicken that much more awesome. Keep in mind that this is not a first date kind of place, its really messy but I promise you its worth it (not that fried chicken is normally my go to date spot...).
I really want some fancy cheese right now: Pastoral (Broadway in between Wellington and Oakdale)
This place has a ridiculous assortment of cheese you've never heard of. While you may not recognize anything there, the staff will help you find something delicious with the aide of samples and providing you with background information about all the cheeses. Pastoral also uses some of their cheeses and other various deli items to make delicious sandwiches. While the sandwiches are small for the price, they all use top notch ingredients and you can taste the difference. Whether you are stocking up for a picnic or organizing a classy cheese party, pastoral will hook you up.
I need a good coffee right now: Coffee and Tea Exchange (Corner of Broadway and Aldine)

Possibly the best iced coffee I've ever bought. Their small small barista station pumps out great coffee drinks from flavored lattes with any of their extensive flavored syrup selection or a wide selection of different teas. Along with their barista, the store also boasts a huge selection of coffee beans, teas, and even some bulk spices. While sometimes the number of choices can be overwhelming, I never disappointed limiting my self to the various roasts that were on special. If you ever wake up to find your self out of coffee at home and just need some caffeine, this is your spot not only to get your self a drink for now but also to stock up for later.
